best_of_gay_atlanta_logoThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution says former staff at Southern Voice, one of several Window Media newspapers and magazines shut down in mid-November, has received a $12,000 matching grant from a local businessman.

Former SoVo owner Chris Cash, who founded the paper in 1988 and sold it to Window Media in 1997, is working with former SoVo staff, including editor Laura Douglas-Brown, to produce a new LGBT newspaper in the city. They say the $12,000 from the Lloyd E. Russell Foundation will be used to pay for initial start-up costs, including paying for an office and printing.

Former SoVo staff are currently seeking community input onĀ  a new name for the newspaper. You can learn more at www.savesovo.com.

Former staff at the Washington Blade have already begun publishing a new paper. The DC Agenda rolled out its first issue on Nov. 20, just four days after losing their jobs.
