Nebraska—On July 16, 2010, Victoria A. Lavin, Editor of the Daily Queer News and Rauschell R. Determan obtained a Marriage License from Douglas County Clerk in Omaha, Nebraska. In August 2010 the license was signed, and filed making the marriage the first state and nationally recognized lesbian marriage.

Mrs. and Mrs. Lavin plan to have their ceremony and celebration on September 4, 2010.

On August 4, 2010 at 1:15 we were married in the state of Nebraska as man and wife by Pastor Tom Emmett III of the Metropolitan Community Church of Omaha.

The religious right will most likely go stark raving mad and do anything they can to invalidate this lesbian marriage, make no doubt, but in the end two women will still be married and have the full rights, freedoms and benefits that our sisters and brothers around the world for so long have yearned for. The walls and gates that have held us all have been torn down. Arise, my sisters and brothers it is time to be recognized as EQUAL.

  4. Thanks for the congrats. We are pretty excited about it sine the Prop 8 Ruling. Even though it won’t take affect until it goes the full course.

There is no where on the certificate for that. But it has both our legal names in the man and wife places. My partner is intersex she has both male and female parts.

  5. Kelly says:

My congratulations to you both, my dear friend.

  6. colin says:

I am a gay man and we can marry here in the UK. I write because I am confused. If one of this couple is intersex, both male and female, how can it be a lesbian marriage? Are we saying that intersex is the same as gay/ If the intersexed person had married a man, would it still be a gay marriage? These are serious questions, not an attack. John and I were only talking last night about intersexed people and the RR must really get all tied up over it!

  7. Billy Glover says:

Another good step for mankind, or humankind? For you personally it should be a time to be happy, but as a community/movement happening, let’s hope it is not ignored and the poor bigots are very unhappy!.
