Howie Klein writes to the LGBT community about the problem of Democratic Party and how to combat conservative Democrats in the 2010 election. Democrats who have voted against progressive issues are being challenge in their primary races. We need to support those who are truly for our issues. I myself am a Democrat and fed up with campaign promises to recieve money to support their campaigns and then do not vote yes for our issues. It is time to send a clear message to those Democrats seeking money from the LGBT community that we have had it with people who make promises they refuse to keep. It is time to bring LGBT issues to the forefront of the Democratic Party and tell those who run that supporting our issues are important for moving equality forward in this country. This was an excellent article and analysts of the Advocates cover story. I for one am apart of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Give” campaign against the DNC. As former leader in my State in the Democratic Party I am tired of the lies for money. Read article

The House and Senate Armed Service Committee Chairs have sent mixed messages about the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. The repeal is in the proposed Obama Defense Budget but will Senate Levine and Representative Skelton allow it to remain there is another story. Skelton has come out to say that he is opposed to repealing DADT. Levine hasn’t come out with any statement, the silence on his part is deafening. DADT has out lived is purpose with the discharge of gay linguists in a time of great need for national security purposes is more than putting our country in danger. As a lesbian who served in silence for 10 years it is time to lift the ban on gays and lesbians in the military. But has anyone really thought about when the ban is repealed that we have a new battle of getting Veteran’s Benefits for gay and lesbian partners and family members. DC Agenda does a good job of putting this all together but never once has VA benefits been mentioned in the arguement of repealing DADT. It is time to address both issues. Read more

Obama ready to compromise on near-universal insurance coverage in the his goal for healthcare reform. In light of Tuesday’s Massachuetts election fall out and losing Senator Kennedy’s seat to a Republican, Obama is ready to drop some goals in his health care package. Again in the most sought after piece of legislation in our time some are willing to compromise at the expense of those who need health care coverage the most. Read more

Well, we have placed a lot of hope in Scott Brown. All eyes will be upon him for some time…A lot hangs on him. He, right now, is an extremely important member of our congress. Or will be, rather, when he gets sworn in.
